WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Reps. Mark Messmer (R-IN) and Donald Norcross (D-NJ) announced the official launch of the Congressional Hypersonics Caucus for the 119th Congress. The mission of the bipartisan caucus is to educate Members of Congress, congressional staff, federal administration officials, academia, and other important stakeholders, about the importance of hypersonic missile technology as a crucial component in America’s national security platform. “I am proud to officially launch the Congressional Hypersonics Caucus of the 119th Congress, which is dedicated to ensuring America’s leadership in the development and modernization of hypersonic missile technology,” said Rep. Messmer. “Hypersonic missiles are going to be a key component in the future protection of our country. The important work being done on hypersonic missile technology at NSWC Crane in Indiana’s 8th District is a critical element in our country’s overall defense posture plans, and I am honored to champion this work in Congress.” BACKGROUND: The purpose of the Hypersonics Caucus is to provide a platform for Members of Congress and their congressional staff to learn about existing Department of Defense hypersonics efforts, and gain insight about the need for support at the laboratories and facilities associated with the research and testing of hypersonics programs. The Caucus will promote the importance of rapidly progressing the design and fielding of hypersonic weapon systems as an essential future component of America’s overarching defense posture.
